Hosting Quality & Location
All hosting is not created equal. It varies from “cheap and nasty” to “premium shared hosting” and you need to ensure your hosting is an asset and not a liability. That’s because it has a direct impact on your Google page speed scores, and more importantly, on your customer’s user experience! And Google measures your site performance and bakes that into the search engine optimisation & ranking scores.
Your Host’s data centre location may make a big difference to page load speed. If your business website is marketing to New Zealand customers, then your site should loaded on a webserver physically located in an NZ data centre. The “latency” in a US or European-based webserver can add 1 or 2 seconds to page load times!

I’ve always encouraged clients to utilise a professional independent hosting service and domain registration. Years ago, in response to client requests for full-service managed hosting services, I established my own Reseller Hosting account in a USA data centre. The benefit is instant access to server settings to provide fast response time to customer issues!

Hosting Security
The better quality shared hosting services also provide layers of website security services, including DDoS protection, automated scans, Mod_Security etc. They will also provide an automated backup system such as R1soft that allows you to quickly roll back the database, WordPress, plugins or themes.
